There are a range of sources of funding available to Thai students considering studying in the UK. Some scholarships are open to all international students and consideration for an award may be done automatically, without need for a separate scholarship application (although you should check on this). Some scholarships are offered for specific programmes of study or just to Thai students. In almost every case, scholarships are allocated on the basis of academic excellence.

In addition to the awards offered by the Universities of Bath, Exeter, Liverpool and Warwick, we also have student funding by scholarships from a variety of external sources. These include UK schemes such as Chevening (Master’s) and Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme (ORSAS or ORS) and Dorothy Hodgkins Scholarships (PhD) as well as the sources of funding offered in Thailand by various sponsors, such as those available via OCSC (“Kor Por”).

Research Applicants

Bath University and Departmental Research Studentships - 40 awards that pay PhD tuition fees at the Home/EU rate plus a yearly stipend of £12300. Any student selected for an ORS award will automatically receive one of these scholarships to make up a fully-funded PhD

Exeter Exeter Research Scholarships - Awarded to a number of outstanding international postgraduate research students each year on the basis of merit. The award covers the full international tuition fees for three years (or the normal or remaining length of the research programme being undertaken). Students who apply for the ORS scheme are automatically considered.

Law PhD - two tuition fee scholarships for International students studying PhD Law; tenable for up to three years subject to satisfactory progress. Some paid teaching duties may also be available with these scholarships

Liverpool

The University of Liverpool is delighted to announce a prestigious new scholarship in honour of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn. It will be awarded annually.

In March 2006 HRH Princess Sirndhorn was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws in recognition for her role in the Plant Genetic Conservation Project, a national initiative set up to preserve and protect key plants and seeds endemic in Thailand. Her interest in conservation and plant genetic research mirrors work being carried out at the University’s Botanic Gardens at Ness on the Wirral across the River Mersey from Liverpool.

Details and conditions of the HRH Princess Sirindhorn Scholarship:

• One full scholarship available annually for a 1-year taught Master’s Degree
• Includes tuition fees
• Includes a living costs stipend of 9,000 UK pounds
• Open to all subjects BUT priority is given to subjects with which HRH Princess Sirindhorn is associated, such as Science, IT, Medicine, the Arts, Geography, History and Languages
• Scholarship is available only to Thai Nationals
• Scholarship applicants must hold a University of Liverpool offer for a 1-year taught master’s degree
• Scholarship Application Deadline is Friday 4th May 2007

OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS:
Overseas Research Students Award Scheme - Up to 20 awards paying full tuition plus £1000 towards living expenses (Also available as a top up to an ORS award)

Duncan Norman Research Scholarship - One scholarship paying full tuition fees plus £20,000 stipend

University of Liverpool International Advancement Awards - All new PhD students undertaking non-medical programmes will automatically receive an annual award of £1000

Warwick Thailand Postgraduate Awards – Four awards of £2500 for Thai nationals undertaking Postgraduate programmes, paid towards tuition fees, tenable for one year

Warwick Postgraduate Research Fellowships - Up to 30 awards paying tuition fees at the Home/EU rate plus a maintenance grant of around £12500 per year. Closing date November 30th for first round (likely to be subsequent second round)

Master’s Degree Applicants

Bath University of Bath International Scholarships - 80 scholarships of £3000, tenable for one year, paid toward tuition fees (Undergraduate and Masters students)

Departmental Scholarships - Various departments offer partial financial assistance to international students of any nationality, some awards are renewable annually, subject to satisfactory academic performance. In some cases fully-funded PhD scholarships are available. These are likely to be for specific research projects

Exeter School of Engineering, Computer Science & Mathematics - £1000 bursary for Thai students plus £500- £1000 (Merit/Excellence Scholarships) depending on academic qualifications (Undergraduate and Masters)

School of Sport & Health Sciences - Scholarships of £2000 - £2500 per year, renewable aannually (Undergraduate and Masters)

School of Business & Economics - Distinction Scholarships; four awards of 50% tuition fee up to £5,000 and School Bursaries; £1,000 - £2,500, for Masters students

School of Law - Up to four scholarships of £3,540 each towards Tuition Fees for students gaining places on one of our LLM programmes

Full-fee Masters Degree Scholarship Scheme - Up to 20 full-fee one-year scholarships (minimum of two for international applicants) for taught Masters programmes across all subjects in the arts, sciences, humanities and social sciences.

Liverpool University of Liverpool International Advancement Awards - All new students undertaking non-medical programmes will automatically receive this annual award of £1000

University of Liverpool International Scholarships - Up to 40 awards for Undergraduate and Masters students on non-medical programmes paying 25% towards tuition fees

Faculty of Engineering Scholarships - Awards of £1000 (Masters)

Law School LLM Bursaries - Two awards of £1000 (Masters)
School of Tropical Medicine Fellowships and Scholarships - Variable value scholarships for all levels of study

Warwick Thailand Postgraduate Awards - Four awards of £2500 for Thai nationals undertaking Postgraduate programmes, paid towards tuition fees, tenable for one year

Law Awards (LLM) - Three awards of £2,000 each for any LLM programme in Warwick Law School for students from SE/S Asia
Politics and International Studies Postgraduate Awards - Two awards of £3000 each (Masters) for students from E/SE Asia
Computer Science – one award of £5000 and two of £2500 for students on the MSc Computer Science and Applications

Warwick Business School MBA and MPA – various awards for outstanding applicants to these specific programmes

Warwick HRI – three awards of £4000 for students on any of Warwick HRIs taught MSc courses in horticulture and related subjects
