Thai Bath student Merinda Thirakornrath says:
It has been my dream for as long as I can remember to study in an excellent university situated in a beautiful city, and Bath offers me just that. The university ranks as one of the best in England with many top fields such as Management and Engineering. The well-equipped facilities, such as its modern library and state-of-the-art sports village, make the learning environment more welcoming for everyone. The beauty of this world-heritage city also makes the residents here feel happy and content. Being completely satisfied here, I did not think twice about placing Bath as my first choice when applying for my PhD programme after completing my MSc. Nobody knows how grateful I was when Bath accepted me as one of their MPhil/PhD students. The helpful staff encourage me and other students strive to achieve our potential and satisfy the university's high academic standards. Of course being successful requires a good work-life balance, and the students and I are able to find time to go out and enjoy ourselves. Movies, international eateries, and nearby famous tourist attractions such as London, Oxford, and Cambridge - not to mention the nearby outlet shopping mall - all help us to make the most of our spare time. The availability of buses that specifically serve the university also makes transportation very convenient.
A Thai Bath student says:
"My academic career at Bath began as a Master of Science student in Automotive Engineering. I chose Bath because of its international reputation for teaching and research. Moving from undergraduate to postgraduate studies can be a daunting step. Postgraduate study is different to undergraduate study as the emphasis is very much on self-directed learning. I worried that I would be 'abandoned' to work alone. However my course was so structured that I never felt cut off and I was well supported in my academic work. Whilst pursuing my degree I was provided with a very supportive network, which enabled me to adjust to my new surroundings, facilitated my academic growth and allowed me to gain invaluable research skills. I have found lecturers at Bath to be approachable and very willing to support students according to their individual academic needs. I looked at other institutions in the UK but was impressed with Bath's location and campus. Bath offers excellent resources to support postgraduate study with a well-stocked library and online resources. This has made the transition to postgraduate study both challenging and enjoyable. Another key reason for choosing Bath is that its high quality researchers were also teaching on the course, rather then being wheeled out for the occasional guest lecture! The location of the University means that Town, Shopping centre, Restaurants and Bars are all within easy reach. When I first came to Bath, I thought that the campus was beautiful and the environment friendly. I stayed on campus where I had a beautiful view from my windows. Apart from this, I have also made lots of good international friends on campus. Although, I have had to be away from my home country for a long time, I have never felt lonely at Bath. My experience at Bath will be unforgettable. I shall continue to enjoy the remainder of my time here" Sitthiraj Wattanasirivej - MSc Automotive Engineering
A Thai Bath student says:
"Bath is one of the most interesting, elegant and vibrant cities in the UK. The University of Bath itself is built on a volcano!!! Inactive of course, but what it does give is the splendors of a panoramic view of Bath. There are also many outdoor activities to enjoy. All international students are provided with 1st class accommodation either in town or on campus. Culture seems to be the middle name of Bath; the students are all friendly and willing to help each other no matter where they are from. I now have a global network of friends that I can turn to regularly for invaluable help, information, or just reminisce! The staff and professors in Bath are just as friendly and very supportive; there is minimum student lecturer divide and everyone here works as a team. Whilst studying in Bath, I have thoroughly enjoyed it and I hope that you will too".

Thai Exeter Student Profile 1
Ms Sawita Ditayont - PhD in Drama 2007-2010 "Exeter is a very nice town. People here are very friendly. The university has a very beautiful campus and the staff are very supportive especially to international students. The town is small and quiet which I think it is very suitable to study. However, even though the town is not that big, you can find everything you want here, pubs, good restaurants, shops (We just had new shopping street this year, Ye!) etc. In case, you want to enjoy "big city" life, you can go to London in only two and half hours by direct train. So it won't be a problem if you want to enjoy your life on weekends and come back to have quiet study life during the week time. The weather in Exeter is warmer than in London (and that is another reason why I chose to study here). Each year, there will be many Thai students who come to study here, so you don't have to worry that you will feel lonely here. There are also around 10 PhD students who study here at the moment and they (including me of course) are very nice and friendly and can help you with any problems you have to face when you arrive here. As far as I know, Thai students do not have any problems studying here. Actually many get very high scores in class. Because there are so many international students come to study at Univerisity of Exeter, there is a lot of support to international students like in-sessional English language courses that can help you improve your English during the term time. There is also international office with staff there who are very lovely and will help you deal with any problems you get during the time you stay here. So for all above reasons, I recommend you to consider University of Exeter as one of your choices. Good luck." Sawita Note from Consortium UK - she has specifically asked for emails of students who will be coming to Exeter so she can give help and advice and she has also told me that there will soon be an official Thai Society at Exeter, so if any one wants to contact her, her email is: saosawita@hotmail.com

Katawut Chuasiripattana - PhD in Physics, University of Exeter I came to Exeter after studying for my BSc in Physics at Mahidol University in Bangkok and for my MSc at Newcastle University in Australia, after which I was employed as a Lecturer in Physics at Srinakharinwirot University in Bangkok. I joined the research group at the University of Exeter concerned with the electronic properties of semi-conductor surfaces. The facilities for research in the School of Physics are excellent. The University campus is very beautiful and is an excellent environment for studying. I have been pleased with my accommodation close to the campus and I have found that the cost of living here is very reasonable compared with other cities in the UK. Exeter is a safe city and I have easily made friends with other international students as well as with English students.
![]() Liverpool - European Capital of Culture 2008 ![]() As a member of the Russell Group of 20 leading research Universities, the University of Liverpool is at the forefront of academic provision. Research is vital to the University, with staff at the cutting edge of knowledge and students constantly involved in new developments. Liverpool is the original "red brick" university, and retains the feeling of tradition in the centre of a modern and vibrant city honoured to be chosen as European Capital of Culture 2008. Sciences and Engineering are really strong areas at Liverpool; for example, where many universities are reducing commitments to Chemistry, Liverpool has invested 17 million pounds in new facilities. Liverpool is a world leader in Veterinary Science/Medicine and ranks 3rd in the UK for Mechanical Engineering in The Times Good University Guide 2008. Other strong areas are Architecture, Biological Sciences, Civil Engineering, Dentistry, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Geology, Health & Medical Sciences, Law, Manufacturing Engineering, Management, Logistics/Operations & Supply Chain Management, Nano-technology, Pharmacology, Physics and Philosophy. The English Language Unit www.liv.ac.uk/english/elu provides Pre-sessional English courses of 20, 16, 10 and 6 weeks, successful completion of which guarantees your place on a degree course. Links with Thailand are increasing all the time, and in 2006 the University was most happy to bestow an Honorary Doctoral Degree on Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn. The University is now proud to offer the most prestigious Princess Sirindhorn Scholarship.

Pawitra Theabrat - MSc Advanced Computer Science at the University of Liverpool
There are many special things at the University of Liverpool that I can't find in Thailand. First of all, it is a city-based campus, so it is easy to walk to the city centre, train station, Chinatown and lots more. Secondly, there are excellent facilities like the sports centre, for example, there are a wide variety of classes provided for all members for free. In addition, the libraries are amazing because they are operated by computers which make it faster and easier to find, borrow and renew books. Although my course has just been introduced this year, there is a variety of subjects which thoroughly cover the areas of most MSc students' interests and expertise. In addition to the high quality of teaching, I am very impressed by the state-of-the-art equipment and applications which give free and quick access to all electronic resources for self-studying and researching. My first impression is that it is such a university city because you can see students everywhere! Besides, it is a quieter and more proper place for studying compared to Bangkok. Because of that way, you can be more concentrated and less distracted. However, there are many good places for shopping or travelling and amazing nightlife here. My favourite place is Chinatown, simply because I can buy Thai products especially food and seasoning there. There are also some Chinese restaurants which make me feel as if I was eating in a Chinese restaurant in Thailand, as food here tastes a lot different! Location
Facilities The 36 million pound redevelopment of the Engineering department (with its superb Active Learning Laboratory for students), 15 million pound campus development, and 17 million pound enhancement of the Sydney Jones Library, clearly show the determination of the University to continue to improve and develop its world-class facilities. There are computer centres in the main libraries and at various locations all over the campus, including the Brownlow Hill Centre which is open 24 hours. The newly extended Sports Centre has a 26-metre swimming pool, 2 sports halls, a climbing wall, a dance studio and 4 squash courts. In addition to sports facilities, there is a wide variety of student clubs and societies, including the Thai Students Society - check out the website www.liverpool.onlinethai.com Accomodation There is a large variety of good and reasonably priced accommodation available within easy walking distance of the campus, shops, restaurants and theatres. The University guarantees accommodation to all postgraduate students who apply before 30 June 2008. All the University Halls of Residence have broadband Internet connections which also offer access to the University networks. Mongkolchai Wiriyapinit
PhD student, Institute of Education
Apart from doing my PhD research, there are so many extra curriculum activities available on campus. There is a Warwick Art Centre where I go for films and concerts. There are many societies supported by the Student Union you can take part. Two years ago, I was actively involved in the Thai Society as a Public Relation committee member. There were many activities organised for the purposes of promoting the Thai culture and of strengthening the Thai students' community at Warwick. I was very glad that the society was chosen to be the most improved society at the end of that year. I always feel that I have made the right decision to come to Warwick and shall enjoy the time I have left here.
